The beginning of class will be introductions, followed by some vocabulary and sentence frame introduction. The students will practice using these sentences to interact with the teacher and one another. Then the students will listen to a folktale or fairytale that includes this vocabulary. We will then talk about the story using our sentence frames.
Students will learn basic greetings, fruits and vegetables, family members, household items, animals, colors, shapes and verbs in the simple present tense. We will also practice our pronouns and verbs in the simple present tense. As this is an ongoing class, we will continue in complexity as long as the learners stay with lessons.
I have a CELTA from International House in Barcelona and have been teaching ESL to children for the last 3 years. I love languages of all sorts and I have a passion for teaching children. I also have a certificate in Early Childhood Education that helps me to better understand the developmental needs of students at this age.
Homework will be assigned class by class based on the concepts learned in class. Usually it will involve teaching the family the information they learned in class that day.
No supplies necessary, but students will be asked to find objects in their homes, so they may leave the computer from time to time to locate an 'orange' or 'something blue', etc.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will be assessing each student as they speak and identify items in stories we read. I will send home brief assessments each week for each learner.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students at this age can sometimes benefit from a parent sitting nearby to help them stay focused.
