over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
Upside Down Drawing - Right Brain vs Left
This week, we'll be exploring a fun technique called upside-down drawing! By flipping our artwork, we challenge the left brain's focus on recognizing objects and activate the right brain's creativity. This allows us to focus on shapes, lines, and relationships between elements, potentially leading to more surprising and expressive drawings.
Lesson 2:
Blink Contour and Value
Unleash your inner artist this week with two exciting drawing techniques! We'll be diving into blind contour drawing, where you focus on capturing the lines and movement of your subject without looking at your paper. This fun challenge encourages a more intuitive approach. Then, we'll explore value drawing, where we focus on light and shadow using a range of tones. By combining these techniques, you'll gain a deeper understanding of form and create captivating artwork!
Lesson 3:
Positive vs Negative Space
This week, we'll be exploring the magic of positive and negative space! Imagine a puzzle - the positive space is the image you're building, like a cat, while the negative space is the leftover area around it. By learning to see and use both spaces effectively, you can create more interesting drawings!
Lesson 4:
Gesture and Figure Drawing
We're getting loose this week with gesture and figure drawing! We'll start by capturing the essence of a pose through quick, flowing lines (gesture drawing). Then, we'll use these gestures as a foundation to build more detailed figures, focusing on capturing movement and form.

I am excited to join Outschool as an art teacher! I LOVE art!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in painting. I have been teaching private art lessons for 25 years and have been teaching in the classroom for 19 years. I have taught pre school age through High School AP Drawing and AP 2D Design and everything in between.
I have 3 kids (ages 24, 22 and 13) and live in Orlando, Florida where I enjoy photography and streetpainting (chalk art) in my down time. I am a member of the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association and enjoy doing chalk art for events and non-profits. My daughter and I were actually featured on our local TV station back in April which was a lot of fun!
I love teaching students the art skills to be successful! I love to see students who think they can’t draw or paint find success and love what they created and be proud of it!
I like to engage students at their level and help them feel comfortable being creative, have a great time, learn about art even if they don’t realize they are learning along the way. I love to see the AHA moments they have when they create something they thought might be unachievable.
I think that students thrive when they start where they are and have lots of encouragement along the way! I am excited to be able to bring this to students around the country and the world!
