Students will learn the different names and functions of each chess piece, and how the grid system works. The grid is used by the International Chess Federation so it's good to understand. **I have a printout available upon signup for reference. It is not necessary to have a chess set, but it helps. (Amazon has magnetic ones with the grid already written along the sides for 15$) We will talk about which pieces are considered 'strongest' and finding one's favorite piece. Students will also learn the history of the game along with its popularity through the years and recent resurgence. Students will come away confident in their ability to name the pieces and their movements. I will recommend joining a chess club to grow and practice their skill. (Following courses will build knowledge and skill)
Learning Goals
Students will know the names and functions of each piece on the chessboard. They will understand the grid system used by the Chess Federation.
