Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge by being able to identify the functions of the four main lobes of the brain (Temporal, Parietal, Occipital, and Frontal) and distinguish the differences between them.

Description

Class Experience

By the end of this class, students will be able to identify the basic functions of the four main lobes of the brain! We will discuss what the Parietal, Temporal, Occipital, and Frontal lobes of the brain do and why they are important. 
Class will be structured as a lecture presentation with questions and student involvement. We will play a short game throughout the class to assess what the students have learned. Content will be taught in visual, auditory, and kinesthetic ways. During class,...

A one-page handout will be provided for printing. Please bring Play-Doh and something to write with.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.

There will be a picture of Phineas Gage. He was a railroad worker in 1848 who was impaled in the face with a tamping iron, and survived. His story shows how amazing the brain is and also how the frontal lobe functions. The picture might be graphic to some students. It is a portrait of him holding the tamping iron and his eye is missing. It looks like it is closed. There is also a picture of his skull with the hole in it. It is educational.
