6 in-class hoursClass Experience
Your student will learn by interacting with the teacher via video instruction, and through writing in the classroom discussion board. The purpose of this class is to provide the students with a beginning level understanding of Bb Trumpet physiology and posture, breathing and breath control, embouchure formation, articulation and tonguing, tone quality, developing tonal and dynamic range, mouthpieces, effective practice routines, and problem-solving strategies. The class will mostly be a call and response format between the teacher and all students, sometimes a call and response with individual students, with opportunities for students to engage with one another in group discussions and cooperative learning activities. This will be done in a relaxed, and structured environment; allowing for social and emotional growth opportunities for students in the class. The applied lesson is designed to expose your student to the various aspects of trumpet performance and to develop a course of study to help you develop and maintain performance and pedagogical skills. The study of trumpet is a combined process that includes development of motor skill learning, programmed responses, understanding of aesthetics, critical thinking, improvisation, composition, and creativity. It also deals with the psychology of performance and techniques of stress management (coping with performance anxiety). The correct physical fundamentals of trumpet performance (tone production, technique, articulation, flexibility, range, and endurance) will be taught theoretically and practically. The musical skills of interpretation, style, improvisation, and sight-reading will be taught in combination with the study of the Tradition Of Excellence Book 1 for Bb trumpet.
Learning Goals
Your student will learn how to read music notes and rhythms fluently and produce a good fundamental sound on the trumpet. The student will utilize a beginning method book to develop the necessary skills a beginning trumpet player requires, and become proficient on the Bb Trumpet/Bb Cornet.
