Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this 45-minute weekly ongoing class, we’ll practice ballet while dancing to Disney themed music! At the start of each class, we’ll say a quick hello so we can get to know each other. Then we’ll jump right into traditional ballet barre exercises (plie, tendu, releve, degage, pique, ron de jambe, and passe). Next, we’ll stretch and work on dynamic steps that move across the floor (kicks, chaine turns, skips/jumps, glissade, pas de chat, and leaps). The last 15 minutes of class will be used to learn a short choreographed dance to music that matches the Movie of the Day. We’ll also be sure to leave a little time for socialization to talk about the Movie of the Day, our dance steps, and how our movement/emotions can connect to the characters. Each week the Movie of the Day will change- as will the themed music and featured dance. At the end of each class, we’ll say goodbye to all of our new friends and finish with a ballerina curtsey or a bow. In class I use a mix of Disney music that fits with the Movie of the Day and standard ballet music. As an ongoing class, no prior knowledge is required and you are welcome to start and stop your subscription at any time. This is a beginning ballet class, and is built for dancers with little to no prior dance experience. However, students who do have prior ballet experience are encouraged to participate because we’ll be practicing foundational dance steps that every dancer can benefit from. Plus, they’ll be able to enjoy the themed dances! Dances will not be continued or built upon from week to week- the Movie of the Day, themed music, and featured dance change each week. In order to support motor development and dance foundations, our ballet barre and skills practice will remain the same, with new sequences and steps being taught each month. This repetition is intentional, as repeating foundational movement it is an excellent way for young dancers to learn ballet. Below is the Movie of the Day list which each class will be themed based upon for the Summer 2024 season: Week of June 3rd: The Little Mermaid Week of June 10th: Incredibles Week of June 17th: Coco Week of June 24th: NO CLASS-MISS LEXA ON VACATION :) Week of July 1st: Ratatouille Week of July 8th: Aladdin Week of July 15th: Toy Story Week of July 22nd: Lion King
Learning Goals
1) Actively participate in movement to support motor skills and social-emotional development.
