Class Experience

This interactive 8 week course is 2nd in a series for your child's continued learning of ASL. They will expand their signing knowledge with additional vocabulary and begin learning about the structure of sentences in sign language.
Completion of Section 1 is required prior to enrolling in this course.

Our classes will always be high energy and fun-filled while getting your child comfortable using their hands and face to communicate in sign language. We will use flash cards, props, drawing, and various objects from your surroundings to learn signs. Some introduction to deaf culture will be included. Each class will have some practice homework. We will review the prior class at the beginning of the current class.

Please note: Since sign language is a visual language, students will need their camera on during the class so that the teacher can see if they are forming the correct hand shapes and facial expressions.

I teach with positive reinforcement and high praise for any and all effort by the student. We will have fun while we learn!

Week 1: alphabet (review) and finger-spelling
Week 2: hand shapes
Week 3: numbers (1 - 100, etc.)
Week 4: signing questions
Week 5: animals (safari and jungle)
Week 6: time
Week 7: simple sentence structure

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a volunteer in the deaf community for 15+ years in various capacities: teacher, interpreter, etc. I have taught sign language communication to over 70 different students over the years. I also taught my children sign language at an early age. My son is an interpreter and both of my children continue to enjoy using sign language in interaction with our many deaf friends.
