Class Experience

In this semester class you will continue your Arabic journey, building on what you have learned so far. This class helps you put your knowledge of the Arabic alphabet to use, providing you with further opportunities to enhance your reading skills and practice writing. It will also focus on improving your speaking and listening skills, expanding your vocabulary and introducing verb use in Modern Standard Arabic. You will actively converse with the teacher and the other students, including expressing your likes in the form of favorite books, movies and colors. We will practice everything we are learning in conversation with one another.  

Please note that Beginning Arabic - Level 1 (Semester Course), or previous experience studying Arabic, are necessary before taking this class. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about placement.

Week 1 - Introduction to the definite article in Arabic. New vocabulary.
Week 2 - Practice reading and writing. Introducing the days of the week.
Week 3 - Numbers and introduction to plurals in Arabic.
Week 4 - Conversation about favorites.
Week 5 - Introductory conversation in Arabic. Reading and writing practice.
Week 6 - Review of the possessive & writing practice.
Week 7 - Introduction of verbless sentences.
Week 8 - Negating verbless sentences.
Week 9 - Expressing likes, dislikes & tastes.
Week 10 - Using verbs in the present tense & writing practice.
Week  11- Introduction to comparative adjective.
Week 12 - General review of course content.

Learning Goals

You will become more comfortable reading and writing, and have greater fluency in conversation. You will learn more ways to ask and answer questions, and acquire the ability to talk about recurring and past events. Additionally, you will learn how to state your opinions about different propositions.

Master's Degree in English from San Francisco State University, MA in Linguistics

My entire career has focused on teaching languages and encouraging cross-cultural interaction and learning. After obtaining my undergraduate degree in English, I joined an acclaimed cultural center in Morocco, where I was trained to teach Arabic and facilitate multicultural dialogue. I taught Modern Standard Arabic and Darija (Moroccan Arabic) to students from all over the world. 

After moving to California, I continued working as a teacher of languages. I taught Arabic, French, and English as a foreign language for various institutions, including Berlitz, ABC Languages, and Fresno State University. In 2013, I received my Masters in English (with a focus on linguistics) from San Francisco State University. I have been teaching Arabic on Outschool for more than 5 years.

When learning a new language, it's best to use that language as much as possible. While speaking some English may be necessary at first, it should be minimized as learning progresses. As much as possible, I choose to engage my students in Arabic and elicit responses in Arabic as well.

The most efficient way to learn a language is to focus on conversation. In my classes, I always prioritize speaking to help the learner overcome any initial feeling of intimidation.  Everybody has a different learning style. As a teacher, I adapt my teaching style to the needs and learning styles of each individual student.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two young sons. I'm excited to raise my children in a multilingual and multicultural environment. With that goal in mind, our family spends a lot of time traveling and learning new languages.

Over the last six years, I've had the pleasure of teaching students of many backgrounds from over two dozen countries.
