In this course, I will be using 3rd grade common core standards to teach students place value strategies. We will be learning about the value of a digit, standard form, word form, expanded form and how to use place value blocks. Students will build on their number sense with examples and practice problems. I teach with the "I Do, We Do, You Do" strategy. Which means, I model and explain problems then we all do similar problems together, then lastly, individuals do problems independently. This helps students build confidence in their mathematics ability. Here is a tentative plan for the 3 classes: Day 1: Get to know each other, discuss values of digit, learn the place value chart from ones to hundred thousands. Day 2: Review place value chart, learn standard form, word form and expanded form Day 3: Review, continue to work on expanded form and practice with place value blocks virtually.

Students will improve their understanding of place value. Specifically, values of digits, standard form, word form, expanded form and place value blocks.

Hello! I have been a teacher for the last 11 years for elementary students. I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th. My favorite subjects to teach are math and science, but I also love to read. I feel that learning happens best when using skills taught right away. I love to have projects ready for students to do hands on practice with skills I have taught. I also love family time!
