Class Experience

Beginner Level
Offer your learner the enduring advantage of typing efficiency! This 5-lesson journey will guide beginners towards intermediate typing prowess. The initial sessions focus on acquainting students with the keyboard, exploring key functions, and honing letter and word skills. As the course progresses, we delve into sentence and paragraph drills, aiding learners in memorizing key locations and optimal finger positioning.

Between classes, engaging practice games tailored to the covered skills will be assigned. Letter drills will be demonstrated via webcam, fostering proper finger-key alignment.

To maintain engagement, drills will be punctuated with activities like memory games, virtual excursions, and humorous anecdotes. These breaks prevent letter amalgamation in the learner's mind.

For detailed lesson plans, check the "Syllabus" tab. Additionally, for a seamless transition to coding classes without typing hurdles, consider our highly recommended class. Discount codes are available for those considering our Python class as well.
Learning Goals
Students will develop typing speed and accuracy. Students will learn to type using 3 types of input: written word, dictation, and their own thought-processes (writing a unique paragraph or sending an email). Students will develop memorization of the keyboard so that they can type without looking at the keys or their fingers. Students will develop a level of typing skill needed for today's educational assignments and high tech jobs which require much written communication at a fast pace.

Parental Guidance
1. Please ensure that your learner refrains from copying and pasting drills into the Nearpod slides during class (while I strongly recommend requiring learners to keep their cameras on, it's not mandatory from my end). Unfortunately, I cannot verify if they are actively typing on their keyboards. I suggest staying nearby and periodically checking in to ensure they are engaging with the drills :) 2. I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND scheduling at least one practice session between each lesson. Your learners will enjoy the online keyboarding game links provided in class. During these sessions, stand by and monitor their use of keyboard charts, ensuring they hit the correct keys with the appropriate fingers. This early intervention helps correct habits like typing the letter C with the pointer finger instead of the middle finger, a common mistake. While these small slip-ups may not seem significant initially, they can impede typing speed potential over time. I employed this method myself, and although it was annoying at times, it effectively eliminated bad typing habits! 3. We will incorporate third-party resources into the course, including Nearpod, Freetypinggame.net, and Typing.com, for drills and practice. Learners won't be required to create accounts or use login information for these tools.
