Beginner Level
Calling all curious learners: How does your brain pass messages? What causes thunder storms? What would it be like to live in space? We will learn the answers to these questions and more, all while practicing reading! This beginners' reading group is for students reading at a 1st to 2nd grade reading level. Learners will read in small groups to practice fluency skills. This is a cooperative reading group with no more than 4 students to ensure each learner gets a good amount of reading time. During each meeting learners will take turns reading out loud. We will also discuss facts from the books and answer questions to check for comprehension. Students are not required to have their own copy of each book since they will be able to read the text directly from the screen. Please be sure learners are attending on a device large enough to read text shared in zoom meeting on the screen. Each week, learners will read a new book in the ten book series. After the 10th week, we will start again at the beginning of the book list: Week 1: "Astronomy" by Emily Bone Week 2: "Earthquakes and Tsunamis" by Emily Bone Week 3: "Living in Space" by Lucy Bowman Week 4: "Planet Earth" by Leonie Pratt Week 5: "The Solar System" by Emily Bone Week 6: "Storms and Hurricanes" by Emily Bone Week 7: "Sun, Moon and Stars" by Stephanie Turnbull Week 8: "Volcanoes" by Stephanie Turnbull Week 9: "Weather" by Catriona Clarke Week 10: "Your Body" by Stephanie Turnbull If your learner enjoys this class, check out my other reading clubs: Animals and History

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am excited to meet you! I am an enthusiastic teacher and believe learning should be fun. Learning is enhanced for a child when it is presented in a context made relative to their interests.
I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. I have taught children for over 15 years. My background includes teaching EFL online to learners aged 4-16 as well as teaching preschool.
I live near Seattle, Washington with my husband and two children. We also have a Siberian Husky, two tuxedo cats, two ferrets, a leopard gecko and a crested gecko. Outside of teaching, I love cooking, volunteering at my children's school and traveling with my family. I look forward to fun and creativity with your child in my classroom!
