Beginner Level
This beginners' reading group is for students reading at a 1st to 2nd grade reading level. Learners will read in small groups to practice fluency skills. This is a cooperative reading group with no more than 4 students to ensure each learner gets a good amount of reading time. During each meeting learners will take turns reading out loud. If time allows, will also discuss comprehension questions. Students are not required to have their own copy of each book since they will be able to read the text directly from the screen. Please be sure learners are attending on a device large enough to read text shared in zoom meeting on the screen. Each week, learners will read a new book in the eleven-book series. After the 11th week, we will start again at the beginning of the book list: Week of January 3: "Beauty and the Beast" retold by Mairi Mackinnon Week of January 10: "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" retold by Mairi Mackinnon Week of January 17: "Cinderella" retold by Laura Cowan Week of January 24: "The Elves and the Shoemaker" from the story by the Brothers Grimm Week of January 31: "The Emperor's New Clothes" from the story by Hans Christian Andersen Week of February 7: "The Gingerbread Man" retold by Mairi Mackinnon Week of February 14: "Little Red Riding Hood" retold by Andy Prentice Week of February 21: "Puss in Boots" retold by Mairi Mackinnon Week of February 28: "Rapunzel" from the story by the Brothers Grimm Week of March 7: "Sleeping Beauty" retold by Mairi Mackinnon Week of March 14: "Snow White" from the story by the Brothers Grimm

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am excited to meet you! I am an enthusiastic teacher and believe learning should be fun. Learning is enhanced for a child when it is presented in a context made relative to their interests.
I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. I have taught children for over 15 years. My background includes teaching EFL online to learners aged 4-16 as well as teaching preschool.
I live near Seattle, Washington with my husband and two children. We also have a Siberian Husky, two tuxedo cats, two ferrets, a leopard gecko and a crested gecko. Outside of teaching, I love cooking, volunteering at my children's school and traveling with my family. I look forward to fun and creativity with your child in my classroom!
