Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Science from Illinois State University
I firmly believe in one of the famous quotes of Albert Einstein: ‘Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere. Imagination is a vital factor of childhood, and I am here to teach them different ways to express their imagination in the form of art and design such as painting, sketching, and designing.
My name is Poornima and I have taught youth the fundamentals of drawing and sketching in all phases of my life. I am a part-time lecturer at Illinois state university, where I teach two classes – Sketching (traditional & digital) and Interior design Rendering. I teach drawing and painting to my 4-year-old son and his friends.
I completed my bachelor's degree in Architecture from Mumbai, India. I believe it helped me understand the designing process and also enhance my sketching skills. I also have 6 years of professional experience as an interior designer from India, where design and sketching were a big part of communication with clients. After moving to the USA, I earned my Master’s Degree in Interior and environmental design from Illinois State University.
I will teach classes mostly on pencil sketching; for example, portraits drawing with graphite pencil, basics of pencil shading, still life drawing in pencil, and perspective sketching, Drawing portraits in graphite pencils are my passion. Please look at my personal Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sketchesbyPoornima) to know about my sketching experience
Finally, being an architect, I will also teach some introductory classes about architecture, interior design, and digital painting/drawing such as introduction to Autodesk Sketchbook, AutoCAD.
My approach to teaching is interactive. I will break down steps in a way that is easy for learners to learn from basic shapes and developed a more complex design or drawing.
I am so happy to be an instructor at Outschool. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and I hope to see you soon.
P.S. If you don't see any class section is fitted to your schedule but wanted to enroll in that class, please message me if possible I will schedule as per your convenience.
