Beginners Let's Read 3: Reading, Rhyming, Sight Words, Stories & More!
In this 10 week class, students will review phonics, blends, CVC and sight words, then focus on reading skills. We'll include topics: sea turtles, feelings, the five senses & more. Pre-requisite: my part 1 & 2 or equivalent.

Class Experience
In this 10 lesson/10 week course, students meet once a week and will review some topics from Beginners Let's Read Parts 1 & 2, including: *the phonetic alphabet *phonetic blends *some CVC and CVCC/ CCVC words *some sight words We will build through scaffolding to focus on: *Basic student reading skills *Some basic writing skills *Rhyming words *Long and short vowel sounds *Sequencing events in stories *Lesson topics include: feelings, 5 senses, and sea turtles *Sorting and grouping
I am a mother and a grandmother with seventeen plus years of teaching experience, first at the college level and now online to ESL students ages three through twelve and here on Outschool. I have a BA and an MA in English from North Carolina State University, TOEFL certification through VIPKid in China, and I love teaching my little learners!
Homework is optional, but strongly recommended. I will provide topic-related handouts through the classroom for in-class exercises/ post-class review. Also, remember that classes are recorded! So, you can review them if you wish.
Students may bring a pencil and paper to class, but they are not required to do so. I often request that they bring something to share (see description). No other apps or websites are required. However, you may want to have a way to print out PDF handouts for class activities, if you want your child to use those. Please check the classroom in between classes for attachments in the announcements section. Thank you!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Informal assessment is provided through the classroom at the end of the course. However, please feel free to ask for specific or general feedback at any time during the course. I also issue a certificate to learners who complete the class.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
The Color Monster: A Story About Emotions by Anna Llenas will be used in lesson seven.
