Beginner Level
Spanish, laughter, and games make compelling forces in language-learning! In this class, those at or near the beginning of their Spanish-language journey will practice different kinds of structures and phrases each week while playing games and discussing the movie Encanto. No previous Spanish knowledge is required. I use Google Slides to teach this unit. I teach with a focus on Comprehensible Input and not grammar since that is not how language is naturally acquired. Spanish Encanto class is designed for beginner level with no previous knowledge or exposure to Spanish. Students will learn Spanish while discussing and viewing parts of the Disney film Encanto. Students will learn numbers, colors, weather, family, clothing, animals and other Spanish vocabulary words and phrases from the movie. Students will learn about Colombia, listen and sing to the music from Encanto and learn about other Colombian traditions. The focus will be on developing skills in the areas of listening, speaking and reading. Interactive games/activities will be used to expose students to the target language. Though this is version of the course includes no live class time, please see below the various ways we will interact over the course of this learning experience: ~Interaction Through Instructional Videos I will post a video introducing the new structures and vocabulary for the week. There will be optional reinforcement activities weekly. ~Interaction Through Reinforcement Games and Activities~ Each week features different structures and vocabulary. I share a video of myself presenting new vocabulary and structures and I provide printable versions of practice activities for the students. I will post additional practice activities after each video and will be available for you to reach out to me via Outschool Platform with any additional questions or concerns. I will respond to you with feedback within 24 hours. The focus will be on developing skills in the areas of listening, speaking and reading. Short comprehensible conversations and games/activities will be used to expose students to the target language. This is not a full immersion class, since it is designed for beginners. This means that I will not speak 100% Spanish in these lessons. I will give instructions and explanations in English, for the benefit of your child. However, most of the class will be in Spanish. Please note that it is important for your child to be willing to repeat the Spanish words during class, and practice saying them with me in the lessons.
