DESCRIPTION: Upon the completion of this course students will be able to define basic Latin vocabulary of approximately 50-80 words; reproduce paradigms of basic Latin forms; identify the grammatical forms and syntactical functions of Latin words of these nouns, adjectives, and verbs; and translate basic Latin sentences and explain their syntax; begin to compose short sentences in Latin. Each class will introduce a new grammar concept, practice and review previous material, and discuss a cultural theme. Beyond acquiring the skills to translate Latin, students will also be learning about the culture, literature, and history of the Classical world. Their English vocabulary will improve. They will better understand English grammar and syntax. And they will build a foundation for learning other languages, particularly Romance languages. PREREQUISITES: Students must have successfully completed Parts 1 & 2 to enroll in this course. OR if the learner has prior knowledge of Latin, they can message me to determine if this course is the right fit for them. CLASS STRUCTURE: This class will use Google classroom for assignments, discussions, and other resources. Some homework will be mandatory. The textbook is REQUIRED for this course. Below is an outline for this course. Everything listed will be covered during this 8-week course, topics are subject to being moved to different weeks when needed. This 8-week course is Part 3 of 5 that completes the entire Cambridge Latin Unit 1 textbook. Upon completion of this class, the next class is "Beginner's Latin - Part 4: High School". This class covers stages 7 & 8 of the Cambridge Latin Course Unit 1 textbook. The required material for this course is the student edition of the textbook "Cambridge Latin Course Unit 1, 5th edition". It is about $29 New on Amazon. Used is OK. But, it needs to be the 5th edition. The book can also be found on iTunes.
