Description
Class Experience
Students will learn how yarn weight and needle size affect their project Students will learn to cast on and bind off Students will learn the garter and purl stitches Students will knit a bookmark Students will knit a scarf in the stockinette stitch
I have been knitting various projects such as hats, blankets, scarves, and pillows for over 10 years. It is a favorite past-time of mine, so I would love to share my skills with others!
After each class, students will be required to practice the stitches previously learned and to cast on rows for any upcoming projects. The amount of time needed to practice will vary depending on the student's individual ability, but expect to knit about 1-2 hours per week (outside of class).
Beginner students tend to have an easier time knitting with thicker yarn and needles, so I recommend the following materials: Size 10 (6 mm) straight knitting needles - $5 2 skeins bulky weight yarn (200 yards total) in the color you want for your scarf (please AVOID buying "roving" yarn) - $4-8 per skein Tapestry needle - >$1 each Scissors *I also recommend using a different, thinner yarn for the bookmark
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Student homework will be assessed informally at the start of class time and throughout the lesson as we practice together.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
