Bienvenue and welcome to my Introduction to French series! In this class, beginning French speakers will practice one of the most important concepts in a foreign language: verb conjugation. Verb conjugation is the grammatical rules for changing a verb to match the person, tense, number, or mood of a sentence. Verb conjugations can be one of the most difficult parts of a learning a new language but also one of the most important. In French, regular verbs generally end in -er, -ir, or -re. In this class, learners will be introduced to verb conjugation and verbs ending in -ir. They will learn the pattern to conjugate regular verbs ending in -ir in the present tense. In doing so, they will also learn several common French verbs ending in -ir. This class is designed for learners who have a basic introduction to French. Students should have some knowledge of basic French pronunciation and vocabulary, although sentences and vocabulary will be defined in class. Students will be encouraged but not required to practice speaking French from the first class. Students will be provided with a handout of verbs that they may reference in class.
