Scientific brain studies have shown the positive impact learning a second language has on the brain. The flexibility of thought and ability to solve problems has been shown to be higher in babies and students who have been exposed to a second language as compared to those who have not been exposed. Teaching Spanish is my contribution, to expand our monolingual population and students with bilingual parents who have not yet mastered their second language. I have taught Spanish through games and interactions and find that my students use their Spanish vocabulary more often than grammar-based teaching. The dynamics in my classes are developed so students can feel comfortable, learn to take chances in using the language, and develop their love of learning it.
