Become an essential part of the Amazon Fulfillment Process in this course about basic programming, critical thinking, and mobile robotics in an authentic fun and engaging experience. Students will be introduced to how robots and associates work together at an Amazon Fulfillment Center to process orders safely and efficiently. The course is powered by CoderZ’s Online Robotics Learning Environment which provides online simulations, a visual code editor, and embedded content using the popular coding language of Python. Coding and Robotics are two of the most sought out skills that careers and employers require. Join us for a one week course that will teach students the basics of coding and robotics through a robot simulation inside the Amazon Fulfillment Center! Students will have the opportunity to learn about coding and robotics, along with hands on exploration the CoderZ website all with guidance from me. No prior experience is required! Day One - - Students with familiar themselves with the platform as well as learn essential controls to successfully navigate simulation area. - The concept of motion will be discussed and explored in order to drive the robot's movement. - Students will practice analyzing the more efficient routes for the robot to run. Day Two - - Students will be on the lookout for patterns that impact code. - Students will write code to implement commands. Day Three - - Students will create and use lift movement blocks to code the robot unit to successfully complete its mission. - Students will analyze the drive unit’s environment and identify the routes available to reach, lift up, and deliver a pod to the picking station. - Students will compare and refine the algorithms for a route and choose the most appropriate. Day Four - - Students will understand the concept of using lists and effectively apply it in their programs. - Students will use iteration by creating sequences in which the stopping point of the previous iteration is the starting point for the next. - Students will add the instruction to choose a drive unit, whenever a different drive unit needs to follow the instruction that follows.
Learning Goals
The basics of robotics and coding will be taught and practiced. More specifically, the following concepts will be covered:
- Motion planning
- Repeat loops
- Computational thinking - decomposition & algorithms
- Code efficiency
- Comparing and refining algorithms
- Variables
- Route selection
- Controlling multiple ‘drive units’ (fleets)

Welcome! My name is Mrs. G and I am SO excited for the opportunity to work with children around the world through Outschool. I have a strong passion for giving children the best education possible and to make learning FUN! Ever since I began teaching, I feel incredibly fulfilled and I wake up excited every morning to go to school, NOT work. Teaching has never felt like a job to me, but a lifestyle; something that is just a part of who I am.
Through the platform of Outschool, I look forward to putting my own creativity to use and design fun, educational experiences. As of now, I am going to be teaching through the creative avenue of "escape rooms". Students will enter the fictional world of the STAR Students (Sophie, Trey, Anthony, and Rosa) of Galaxy Elementary School. These four students need the help of Outschool students to solve various mysteries that will be uncovered through clues. The only way to receive clues is by solving math problems and/or answering ELA questions. Outschool students will join the STAR students on an educational adventure during each one of my classes!!
I also have a strong passion for writing and specifically, supporting students by teaching strategies to help improve their writing. I love helping developing authors find their voice, creativity, and passion for writing!
A little bit about my professional background: I have experience as a third grade teacher of students with an IEP, Gifted and Talented students, and everyone in between. That being said, I am comfortable teaching a wide variety of grades and ages. While teaching, I served as my school's literacy and technology coach. This means I supported my colleagues as an instructional coach by providing professional development, coming into their classrooms to help their instruction, and opening my classroom doors for observation.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, a minor in Early Childhood Education and a certificate in Leadership. In 2020, I also obtained a Master's degree in Educational Leadership with a supervisor and principal certificate.
In September, I gave birth to a baby girl! I am currently on maternity leave but I miss teaching so much that I am excited to have the opportunity to teach online!
