In this class we will go over the basics of ballet technique, both in the barre and in the center. I always start my classes with a warmup to prevent muscle strain. The warmup will cover feet and arm positions, as well as most of the basic steps at the barre. We will then move on to some barre combinations. After we’re finished at the barre, learners will have the opportunity to apply what they learned to combinations in the center. As a teacher who was once a dancer, I truly appreciate the value of good technique. Technique is the focus of this class, as good technique will set the learner up for a successful dancing future. I strive to provide detailed feedback to each learner, and I do so with joy. Dancing is my passion and I love sharing it will others!

Parental Guidance
As dance is a fitness activity, there are some risks involved. I would recommend making sure your learner has ample room and a water bottle. Please use your judgment in whether you choose to monitor your child or not.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Elena Penner. I am a 2020 grad, and I graduated with my B.A. in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. Prior to graduating I was a dance teacher for 4+ years; I’ve been dancing myself since I was 5 years old. It is my firm belief that no matter the age, style, or content, every student is capable of great learning and growth. I love teaching in the online format, and did so when COVID-19 shut down my dance studio. I’m currently teaching 1st grade, and I love hiking, knitting, and coffee!
