Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this single project-focused self paced course, students will build on their foundational knowledge of Blender and low-poly box modeling through a series of instructional video lessons centered around building a single 3D scene. Students are guided through a real-world example of what it takes to build a fantastic scene from scratch. In addition to step-by-step instruction on the creation of 3D objects, materials, and lighting, we take time to explore fundamental design principals. We learn not only how to create 3D scenes, but how we can make them look really good, too. I work hard to ensure a consistent and high quality on-demand classroom experience. This includes clear and concise lesson plans, course structure, high fidelity audio and video, and accessibility considerations. If you have any questions you'd like answered before signing up, please don't hesitate to reach out! Notes: This course does not cover sculpting, animation, or UV editing, or video game engine importing. It does, however, build the skills necessary to approach these topics. This should NOT be your first Blender class! While each action is narrated and visible on screen, we do not take time in this class to introduce or review basic controls. I highly recommend that learners have a basic knowledge of: - Object and Edit Mode - Moving around the 3D Viewport - Adding new objects to the scene - Moving, scaling, and rotating objects If you are looking for an introduction to Blender and 3D modeling for absolute beginners, I highly recommend my Blender Bootcamp Course available here: https://outschool.com/classes/intro-to-3d-modeling-blender-bootcamp-for-absolute-beginners-M7B9y4Ny A standard 3-button mouse is highly recommended, but not required, for class. If you are using an older computer or laptop, please refer to the blender system requirements page to ensure your computer is capable of running Blender. https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/ Blender does not run on tablets or Chromebooks.
Learning Goals
Students will feel competent and confident with the basic Blender interface and tools including transformation, basic materials, lighting, and rendering. We cover best practices and efficient use of shortcuts and hotkeys. We build important skills that will translate into professional use. Students will refine and develop their skills in these areas, while gaining a foundational understanding of good visual design. We don't just explain how to do something - we take the time to explain why.

How Youtube is used in this course: No account is required. Each week I will post all of the video content in a single slide-based presentation with the videos and helpful tips embedded within it. I also post each video link individually within the Classroom. These videos will play within an embedded video player on the Outschool website.
How Blender is used in this course: This course uses Blender, a free and open source program for creating 3D models and animation. No account is needed. I may sometimes ask students to send me screenshots of their Blender window in order to troubleshoot technical issues.

Hello! I'm Joey and I'm excited to meet you. As a parent, I understand how vital early childhood education is. The fact that you are here, searching for the best instructor for your learners, means that you know how important it is too. I take this responsibility seriously, and work hard to provide individual attention and support to all of my students.
I've worked professionally as a software developer, as well as an adjunct college professor teaching introductory and advanced computer programming courses. My passions and class topics are wide ranging, from tabletop role-playing games to 3D modeling, astronomy, and art! To each of my classes I bring the same philosophy: that we truly grow when we connect what we learn to what is important to us. No matter if it's academic study or a social activity, I teach with the intention of inspiring students to make those connections and get excited about learning. I can't wait to see you in class!
