In this 4-week online course, students will continue to master the basics of low-poly modeling, lighting, and rendering in Blender.
Class experience
In this four week class, students will build on their foundational knowledge of Blender and low-poly box modeling through a series of instructional video lessons centered around building a single 3D scene. Students are guided through a real-world example of what it takes to build a fantastic scene from scratch. In addition to step-by-step instruction on the creation of 3D objects, materials, and lighting, we take time to explore fundamental design principals. We learn not only how to create...
Students will feel competent and confident with the basic Blender interface and tools including transformation, basic materials, lighting, and rendering. We cover best practices and efficient use of shortcuts and hotkeys. We build important skills that will translate into professional use. Students will refine and develop their skills in these areas, while gaining a foundational understanding of good visual design. We don't just explain how to do something - we take the time to explain why.
Homework Offered
Students are expected to watch all of the guided video lessons each week. There is no requirement to share or submit any of your work.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class

There are no tests or assessments in this class. Students are always encouraged, but not required, to share their finished and in-progress artwork in the classroom.Grades Offered
Welcome! I'm glad that you've chosen this course to build your 3D skills in Blender. As the official class start-date approaches, I will release the full week's content to the classroom. This includes the video lessons and hotkey reference sheets, a handy printable lesson plan that you can use as an assignment checklist - as well as downloadable Blender project files that you can use to reference or check your work. Now is also a good time to double check the system requirements for Blender to ensure that your computer or laptop can run it without issue. To be sure that this course accommodates a wide range of students, I've designed the projects in this course to ensure that you don't need the latest and greatest computer hardware to complete them. https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/ If you already know how to download and install Blender, feel free to do so before class begins. If not, no problem. Week one includes a short video on how to do that. Please feel free to contact me with any questions before the course begins. I can't wait to get started - see you in class!

How Youtube is used in this course: No account is required. Each week I will post all of the video content in a single slide-based presentation with the videos and helpful tips embedded within it. I also post each video link individually within the Classroom. These videos will play within an embedded video player on the Outschool website. How Blender is used in this course: This course uses Blender, a free and open source program for creating 3D models and animation. No account is needed. I may sometimes ask students to send me screenshots of their Blender window in order to troubleshoot technical issues.
