Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
Beginner Level
In this class, for reluctant and beginner writers, I will help your child become more comfortable with writing using prompts that are interesting and fun with attention-grabbing worksheets. We will follow the three common core text purposes: narrative, informative and opinion writing using the traditional draw-and-write formats together with real-world formats. This type of approach can be particularly engaging for new writers because it helps the young, reluctant yet emerging author understand how writing can be used in the real worlds such as: newspapers, itineraries, cookbooks, postcards, advertisements etc.

Each day, we will cover one topic, whether that is in the narrative, information or opinion writing format. Your learner will be guided through the process, giving them ideas, inspiration and encouragement to write on their own. The class is paced according to the skill and level of each student.

I will be providing the worksheets weekly so that your learner has the supplies needed to excel in this class. All you need to do is print the resource and bring it to class, along with a sharpened pencil and eraser. Resources are all provided and included. in the tuition price.

This is a private class, so your child will have one one one interaction and personalized instruction.

Below is an idea of our schedule as we work on your child's writing skills:
Week one: Your favorite snack (opinion writing)
Week two: The Museum of Natural History (informative writing)
Week three: The Sad Scarecrow (narrative writing)
Week four: How to brush your teeth (informative writing)
Learning Goals
My goal for your learner is that he/she will have greater confidence in writing in the three styles and begin to enjoy the writing process and not dread the activity. Writing is a very important skill to have in the real world and my hope is that your budding author will start to develop a love of writing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in History from De La Salle University
I have been a homeschool mom since 2016 and have taught my own kids from Kindergarten to now 8th grade. I have taken many writing workshops in the past few years because I know and fully understand the benefits of being a good writer. Today, I still take courses to develop my own skills and try to pass on this knowledge to my own kids or students.
