Can you imagine creating new universes with watercolor? In this 2-day class students who are beginners with watercolor will learn all about the medium and how to use it step by step in fun ways to create unimaginable results. We will use a variety of supplies and resources. This art camp is meant to be explorative and fun! Students will be exploring different techniques with the medium as well as work on their technical art skills like brush precision and pressure, blending & transparency. We will use these together to paint rainbows, landscapes, flowers, foods, and even animals. **If you're looking for a little more advanced classwork, please check out my Level 2 Beginner's Watercolor Camp.** Day 1: We will learn the basics of watercolor, get acquainted with our paints, and together explore transparency & gradient. Day 2: We will learn about pressure, precision, and control of our paintbrushes. Day 3: We will use explore wet on wet techniques and create a delicious piece of artwork. Day 4: We will use everything we learned to create a detailed, multi-layered piece of artwork of an animal or landscape. As the teacher, I will guide the students through the process of painting with watercolor, modeling and describing what I am doing so they may follow. In the materials section below, you can find everything that you will need for this class. The students will be painting along with me as I teach the class. Parental supervision is suggested but many students will be able to do the class majority on their own. Students may engage me in conversation to ask questions, share, or show their work at any time! At the end of class, students will be encouraged to share their creations with everyone in the class.
Learning Goals
Students will become comfortable with watercolor and learn techniques they can use over and over again! They will learn the basic aspects of working with watercolors as well as an understanding of basic brush control and precision.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Laina and my passion is teaching art as a form of self-care and self-expression. I've been teaching art to elementary age children for many years now. I love seeing a child's confidence expand as they foster their own self-expression through art! I am traditionally trained as a graphic designer and I use watercolor art to add beauty to life around me. You will always find me creating something new- online, or off. I hope to see you in one of my classes soon!
