In this class we will cover correct posture, breath support, warm up, vocal technique, and exercises to develop the beginning singer. This class will focus solely on technique, but learners will have the option to submit themselves singing songs for feedback if desired. As class progresses and exercises are performed, we will begin learning more advanced exercises and discuss the importance of vowel placement, text breathing, phrase emphasis, and the skills required to communicate a song. This is class is a FLEX and lessons will be sent to enrolled learners each week. There will be no live meetings. Structure & Engagement For This Class: ⫸Mondays: Video lessons are posted at 12 PM EST -Every lesson will have the material and exercises for singers to practice throughout the week. It is recommended that students review and practice to this lesson 3-5 times during the week, but are welcome to reference it daily if their schedule allows. ⫸Wednesday: Vocal Discussion, Assessment, & Shared Singing -Every Wednesday, students will have the option to participate in assessment questions about singing, confidence performance, favorite musical genres, personal history with music, and future goals as a performer. Questions in our assessments: -who has taken voice lessons before? -who has performed on stage before? -who has attended a vocal audition? -who has a favorite singer or band? *Students also have the option to share music they are currently working on in these activities ⫸Friday: Feedback Day -Students have the opportunity to submit video/audio of their progress in our video lessons. Should a student be working on a specific song, they may also submit a video of themselves performing it for feedback. Weekly Topics: Week 1: Students will learn the basics of proper singing posture, breath support, scales, and warm ups. The lesson will cover middle, low, and high singing range. We will cover how singers include music practice into their weekly schedules. Week 2: Students will learn vocal scales and warm ups in the middle range. We will begin our lesson with vocal warm ups, breath support, scales throughout the middle range and proper cool down. We will reference our basics of proper singing from week one and continue to work on establishing a solid practice schedule. Week 3: Students will learn vocal scales and warm ups focusing on the low range. We will begin our lesson with vocal warm ups, breath support, scales throughout the middle range and proper cool down. We will reference our basics of proper singing from week one and continue to work on establishing a solid practice schedule. Week 4: Students will learn vocal scales and warm ups in the upper/high range. We will begin our lesson with vocal warm ups, breath support, scales throughout the middle range and proper cool down. We will reference our basics of proper singing from week two/three and continue to work on establishing a solid practice schedule in all vocal ranges. Week 5: Students will learn warm ups in all three ranges: low, middle, and high. We will learn vocal warm ups, breathing exercises, and scales that include full vocal range. Students will learn the importance of including all vocal ranges in their weekly practice schedule and how practicing leads to more confidence as a performer. Week 6: Students will learn full range vocal scales and warm ups. We will begin our lesson with vocal warm ups, breath support, scales that work off our previous lessons. We will reference our basics of proper singing from week three and continue to work on establishing a solid practice schedule. Week 7: Students will learn vocal exercises starting in the middle range, moving to the lower vocal register and then up to the high range. We will learn the correct posture and importance of breathing in each register. We will discuss having confidence as a singer and preparing for musical performances. Week 8: Students will learn a solid warm up and cool down vocal routine: from initial stretching, stance, support and vocal exercises. We will cover the importance of including posture and breathing in our weekly music practice, confidence as a singer, and finding musical opportunities. This course will follow a “flexible schedule” and does not have scheduled online meetings. This flexible schedule allows students to practice at any time, 24/7 for the duration of the course.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics of posture, breath support, and vocal technique to become a polished singer. Each week, we learn and practice exercises to gain confidence as singers/ performers.

Students will learn vocal scales and warm ups in the upper/high range. We will begin our lesson with vocal warm ups, breath support, scales throughout the middle range and proper cool down. We will reference our basics of proper singing from week two/three and continue to work on establishing a solid practice schedule in all vocal ranges.

Hello and Welcome! My name is Kristen I am a performer, voice over actor, teacher, and videographer. I have the honor of being awarded the Music & Arts: Teacher Of The Year Award.
As a performer, I have traveled the world performing as a lead singer onboard Carnival Cruise Lines. I have worked on seven ships in their fleet and performed several genres of music on stage. I have also worked as an actor in New York City. I have auditioned and traveled around the United States for jobs performing in musicals. My favorite shows are Disney's Mary Poppins (Mary), South Pacific (Nellie), and She Loves Me (Amalia).
As a teacher, I am currently a music teacher at an academy. I have taught and hosted live and virtual classes in music, theatre, auditioning, and public speaking. My goal is to prepare students for their auditions and performances so they are not as nervous and feel confident in themselves.
As a videographer, I run a YouTube channel documenting my travels as a teacher and performer. Working online has taught me about video-story-telling, graphics, editing, and proper lighting.
