Students are expected to practice ~15 minutes each day on their own to develop the skills we learn in class. I will give instructions on how and what to practice in each class.Class Experience
Students will learn or revisit the basics of the violin - the parts of the instrument, how to hold the violin with good posture, develop strong technique. I will also teach rudimentary music theory as we go along. The goal of the class is to get students comfortable with and confident in playing the instrument! I tailor my classes to each student's individual needs and repertoire goals - the violin is a difficult instrument to learn, and it is natural for each student to go at their own pace. While I am a classical teacher, I also like to make my own arrangements of pieces that kids may be more familiar with to promote a fun and relevant learning experience. While this class is learner directed and catered to students at each level, students can expect to follow the general schedule for each week: warm up/posture, violin exercises/studies, violin performance piece, music notation and sight reading. All materials will be provided by the teacher and shared in the Zoom classroom.

Hello! I'm a violin teacher on Outschool, and am looking forward to offering classes here! I am a violinist and educator in BC's Okanagan region, playing regularly with the Okanagan and Kamloops Symphonies. Prior to that, I was Principal 2nd Violinist in the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra.
I have over 8 years of classroom teaching experience, as well as over 14 years of experience teaching private lessons for students ages 4-50! Since April 2020, I have been teaching private lessons online through Zoom as well. I believe that learning music should be fun, and have developed my own methods tailored to students' needs. I teach mostly classical music, but like to incorporate some popular tunes based on students' interests.
I hold a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance/Music Ed from McGill University. I am a licensed ECE, with a Diploma in Early Years Education from the University of British Columbia.
