Class Experience

Students will gain valuable analytical, musical, and life skills in this 6-week camp. They will improve their violin playing through group instruction and will also get to practice interacting with other musicians. They will develop and practice their critical thinking as well as their critical listening skills.
I am a professional violinist in the Sarasota Orchestra and hold both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Violin Performance from two of the top music conservatories in the country. I have toured extensively with stars such as Josh Groban, Michael Buble, and Andrea Bocelli. I've been teaching the violin both online and in person for over a decade and have experience teaching students of all ages and experience levels from 5 years old to adult. In addition to my year-round private studio, I spend my summers serving as artist faculty at several prestigious music camps including the Dali Quartet International Music Festival in Philadelphia and the Porterville Strings Summer Workshop in California.

My current and past students have won auditions for prestigious arts high schools as well as their All State youth orchestras and have even won positions in regional orchestras. I believe that every student has the potential to learn the violin with the right instruction. Every child learns in their own unique way, so I tailor my teaching style to meet the needs of my students. My goal is to create a friendly and encouraging environment so your child can learn and grow confidently as a musician.
To see the most amount of progress, students are highly encouraged to practice during the week between each class. Practicing for even 15 minutes a day is much more effective than practicing just a couple of times a week for a longer period of time and ensures the most retention of the material taught during class.

Each student will have the opportunity to perform a song for the class at the Final Recital. Students should take some time outside of class to practice their song and be ready to perform.
-Students should have their own copy of Suzuki Violin School Volume 1 (see below for Amazon link) -Students should have an appropriately sized violin and bow in playable condition. If you are unsure what size violin to get or have questions about buying/renting a violin, please send me a message prior to the start of the course. -A shoulder rest or sponge is highly recommended (please make sure you get the correct size for your violin) -Rosin and a microfiber cleaning cloth -Finger tapes (if they do not already have them). Please see links below to purchase. -A chromatic tuner app will be very helpful to tune their instruments. Any free chromatic tuner on the app store will do. I recommend the one called Tuner Lite on the Apple app store. -Students should come to camp each week prepared with a pencil, their instrument and music, and their cameras on for the duration of the camp. -Students should come to camp each week prepared with a pencil, their instrument and music, and their cameras on for the duration of the camp.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
It would be very helpful if parents could tune their violin in between classes. This is something that I would normally do for them at this level, so I must rely on parental assistance with this. I've created a short video tutorial to help you with this process:

Since we will be playing the violin in this class, it is important that I am able to see and hear the student. The student should have their video on throughout each class and be situated in a quiet room where they can both listen and be heard. Due to the nature of the online platform, we cannot all play at the same time. I will utilize the mute function during class as needed to take turns playing.
Students should have their own copy of Suzuki Violin School Volume 1

A tuner and metronome app are highly recommended. There are many free options in the app store, but the specific ones I use are:
Tuner Lite
insTuner Free - Chromatic Tuner
Pro Metronome (free version is fine)
