Welcome to Ukulele and Songwriting for kids! This class teaches kids and teens how to play the ukulele, and how to write songs that they can then play on their ukulele. It is a highly engaging, creative class that is personalised to each student and their needs. Beginners will first learn the following: • How to hold the ukulele • The names of the parts and the strings • How to pluck and strum the strings • The first 4 chords of C, Am, F, and G. In order to write songs on the ukulele, students will learn how to read and write chord diagrams. They will learn how to create a strumming pattern and how to read ukulele tablature. After learning the basics, learners will then begin to write their own songs on the ukulele. We will take themes, such as seasons, colours, animals, activities that the learner enjoys, and more, and start to write down phrases and lyrics to go with certain chord patterns. We will learn about melody, and how to construct them into songs, and how to create rhymes. Through this method, your learner will build their confidence and ability in singing. Songs will be based on the chords and the techniques we have already learned on the ukulele. As classes progress, learners will learn more chords, more complex strumming and plucking patterns, and write longer songs. There will also be opportunity to learn and cover other popular songs. I look forward to meeting you in class!
