Assignments

1-2 hours per week. There will be lessons to practice online setup by the teacher. Students are in charge of completing their lessons as they are able to. The more they practice the more their wpm (words per minute) will increase as well as their accuracy. They will have some time in class to work on their lessons, but not all lessons will allow for time to be completed in class which means it may take time outside of class too. The lessons are not graded. Students may or may not finish all lessons depending on how long they take to complete them and how much time they have to devote to practicing. This varies student to student so I do not require all lessons to be finished, but I do hope students will practice each day if time allows!

Mastery Evaluation

A certificate of completion showing the beginning assessment and the ending assessment for comparison of growth. Even the tiniest of growth to the most amazing growth is possible per what I've observed in m classes over the years! Students light up when they receive their certificates and see their work paid off!

Assessment

I continuously monitor student assessment through informal assessments and tracking progress on the typing site. A certificate of completion showing the beginning assessment and the ending assessment for comparison of growth. Even the tiniest of growth to the most amazing growth is possible per what I've observed in m classes over the years! Students light up when they receive their certificates and see their work paid off!

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5

Beginner Level

Each week, I will be posting a video for students to watch on their own which introduces our lesson for that week. Please refer to the syllabus for the topics covered week to week. 

We will have an assignment, usually simple in nature, for students to complete following each video. Watch for an additional post in the classroom each week to keep our practicing up while completing a simple, but fun, task!

This class may be offered privately with a longer span of weeks to focus on only three keys at a time if need be. Feel free to message me or search through my listings to find this course!

Learning Goals

Students will learn to type proficiently and increase their wpm (words per minute) as well as their accuracy based on the knowledge gained in class, the number of days and time spent practicing within and outside of class time. Confidence will grow!

Lesson 1:

Let's get started!

 Proper Position, Proper Posture, logging into the website, taking 
a 1 minute typing test to see where we are now and J, F and Spacebar lesson.

Lesson 2:

Punctuation Station!

 Typing punctuation symbols we use on the regular basis properly with review of proper positioning and posture.

Lesson 3:

Letters everywhere!

 We will learn to properly type the letters of the alphabet using proper positioning and proper posture.

Lesson 4:

Shift and Numbers!

 We will practice learning how to type numbers across the top of our keyboard as well as how to properly use both shift buttons on our keyboard to create symbols.

Learning Needs

Learning to type has been proven to aid students who have Adhd, Dyslexia and ASD in day to day communications as well as school assignments. Many struggle with writing and handwriting. Learning to type will increase efficiency too!

Parental Guidance

Students are given a login to the typing site via the Outschool Messages center prior to class beginning or when they join. Please advise students to use this login and not their own so I can keep track of progress, monitor their practice times and help them see what they still need to work on or encourage them when they improve. When another login is used, I am unable to see all of that information. We will be using typing.com for some of the practice, but I have created my own games and activities to use in class as well. There may be ads on the site as I do not pay for the typing site at this time (I may in the future), but they have yet to be anything alarming. Please monitor the ads at your own discretion should they pop up. There are tools to turn off the sounds and change the visuals of the site at the student's discretion due to various needs or preferences. If you need any assistance with this, please notify me through Outschool Messaging!

Pre-Requisites

No need! Everyone is met where they are and will be able to grow at their own pace.

Supply List

Students will need to be able to access the website to practice their typing lessons. It is recommended to write down the login information I send students in messages on Outschool to give your learner a visual to follow when we login each day during class.

I have been typing at 88-120 wpm since 2000. I was a teacher assistant in high school for my typing instructor due to my proficiency in typing and I have taught students of all ages on my own, as well as on Outschool, how to type proficiently since 2020. I thoroughly love seeing student's progress and smile as they do grow even in the tiniest way. Getting to be their cheerleader brings me joy!
