Beginner Spanish Immersion Twice a Week

This is a full curriculum class for learners wanting to start speaking Spanish from day one with plenty of opportunities for practice.

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
The content is based on the performance descriptors from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
Student will participate in conversations on very familiar topics using a variety of words, phrases, simple sentences, and questions that have been highly practiced.

This is a highly interactive class where students are expected to participate in the activities to practice the language. They are also encouraged to keep their cameras on as much as possible. 

 
CONTENT DESCRIPTION (Content might be modified based on the needs of the students)

During the first day of the week,  students will be introduced to the vocabulary and structures to be able to achieve the communicative goal and will start practicing. On the second day of the week, students will have more time to practice what they've learned. 

Students will learn and practice the following communicative abilities:

Week of September 17 & 19; Topic: Telling my name, greeting others, introducing myself to others.
                
Week of September 24 & 26; Topic: Talking about important days of the year. Telling dates using days of the week, months and numbers 1-31. Asking others about important dates. 

Week of October 1 & 3; Topic: Talking about different places to live. Describing towns/cities using adjectives, verb there is/are, verb to live in first person singular (Yo) and plural (Nosotros) and second person singular (Tú).
 
Week of October 8 & 10; Topic:  Describing myself. Talking about physical and personality traits. Asking others about those traits. Practicing verbs Ser and Estar for permanent and temporary conditions. Practicing first person singular (Yo) and second singular (Tú).

Week of October 15 & 17; Topic:  Describing others. Talking about physical and personality traits. Asking others about those traits. Practicing verbs Ser and Estar for permanent and temporary conditions. Practicing first person singular (Tú) and third person singular (él/ella).

Week of October 22 & 24; Topic:  Talking about the family. Describing family members, making comparisons. 

Week of October 29 & 31; Topic:  Talking about pets. Describing animal characteristics. Practicing verbs Ser and Tener. 
 
Week of November 5 & 7; Topic: Talking about school subjects. Describing clases and expressing likes and dislikes, using verb Gustar. 

Week of November 12 & 14; Topic: Describing daily schedules. Telling time, using from, until, before and after. 

Week of November 19 & 21; Topic : Talking about food. Describing favorite restaurants, meals and types of food. Practicing using adjectives related to food, meals and restaurants. 

Week of November 26 & December 2; Topic: Talking about clothes. Discussing what we usually wear in the different seasons. Talking about the weather and clothing items.
Learning Goals
LISTENING: 
To understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most personal immediate relevance (basic personal, family, local area, school). 
To catch the main point in short, simple messages and announcements.
SPEAKING:
To communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. 
To use a series of sentences to describe in simple terms the areas of most personal immediate relevance.
