In this 10-week Spanish world language beginner-level course, learners will develop the basic skills to communicate in Spanish. 

𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰:

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟏: 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒, 𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 & 𝐍𝐔𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑𝐒 
There will be classroom introductions & classroom expectations. Learners will be introduced to Spanish greetings and the difference between formal and informal conversation, how to introduce oneself, ask for one's name, and how to say goodbye. Learners will learn about cardinal numbers from 0 to 100. Learners will have an opportunity to practice using the new vocabulary in class and record what they have learned for the teacher. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟐: 𝐋𝐎𝐒 𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐒 𝐃𝐄 𝐋𝐀 𝐒𝐄𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐘 𝐐𝐔𝐄 𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐀 𝐄𝐒? (𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 & 𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄)
What day is it? What time is it? Learners will learn the days of the week, months and seasons of the year, date structure, and examples. They will be able to learn how to ask for the time in Spanish using the parts of the day and the European system. There will be activities in couples reading and writing dates with times. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟑: 𝐄𝐋 𝐀𝐋𝐅𝐀𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐎, 𝐋𝐎𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐒 & 𝐌𝐈 𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐀  (𝐀𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐀𝐁𝐄𝐓, 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒, & 𝐌𝐘 𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐘) 
Learners will be introduced to the Spanish alphabet. In this session, we will work on the pronunciation of vowels and consonants, how to spell their name, and the application of the Spanish alphabet. Learners will also learn the colours in Spanish and be able to describe the colour of different objects in Spanish using the verb 'ser'. There will be a series of exercises and games for the students. Learners will learn about family members in Spanish through different exercises and games facilitated by the teacher. Students will be able to describe the members of their family using the verbs 'ser' and 'llamar'. Learners will draw pictures of their family trees to present at the beginning of the following class. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟒: 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖
There will be a comprehensive review & reflection of what learners achieved during the past three weeks. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟓: 𝐌𝐈 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐀 (𝐌𝐘 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐄) 
The class will begin with the family tree presentations in Spanish. Learners will learn about the parts of their house in Spanish through songs, exercises, and games. Learners will draw pictures of their dream houses that they will present in the following class using the verbs 'ser' and 'estar'. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟔: 𝐋𝐀 𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐒 𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐒 (𝐃𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐘 𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒)
The class will begin with learners presenting their dream house in Spanish. Learners will learn new vocabulary relating to commonly used verbs and nouns associated with daily routines. Learners will do a presentation of their daily routines in the beginning of the following class. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟕: 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖
There will be a comprehensive review & reflection of what learners achieved during the six weeks. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟖: 𝐋𝐎𝐒 𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐎𝐒 𝐃𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐒 (𝐌𝐎𝐃𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍)
This session will begin with learners doing their presentations about their daily routines. Learners will develop their vocabulary about different modes of transportation and be able to describe their favourite mode of transportation. There will be a short film screening about the different modes of transportation in Spanish. Students will prepare their final presentation about Spanish-speaking countries in Spanish for our final meeting. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟗: 𝐋𝐎𝐒 𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐃𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐀 𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐀Ñ𝐎𝐋 (𝐒𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒)
Nationalities and countries in Spanish. Nationalities and Countries: Where are you from? Where are you? Practice: guessing verbs, asking for nationality, location, and professions, and guessing characters. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟏𝟎: 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐒 & 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖
Students will present their final country projects to one another. There will also be a comprehensive review & reflection of what learners achieved during the past ten weeks.

23 years old, was born in Alabama but raised in New Mexico with her Mexican parents. Her parents would always go back and forth to Mexico since they lived very close to the frontier. She was raised with English and Spanish as her native languages.
 
Since she was very young, she knew she wanted to be a teacher, she enjoys spending time with children, and she is known for being very patient with them, that’s why she decided to go to college and major in Education. Since she began college, she started working as an ESL online teacher which she has been doing for 2 years. She has also been a volunteer for 5 years, teaching various subjects across the country of Mexico, during her free time.
 
She has a 7-year-old niece with ADHD, daughter of a single mom, a full-time worker, and a student. She helps her niece with online school and homework. She is glad she chose this career path where she can help others learn something new but especially those in need. 
 
She believes that her job as a teacher is to be a guide, learning from them is just as important as what they learn from her. She also believes each child has their own abilities and struggles, she can understand that, help them grow and blossom inside the classroom no matter what their learning skills are. The joy of seeing a kid being excited from something they learned, even if it was as simple as a single word or sentence, is incomparable.

A Tri-Lingual Spanish Teacher at the Music and Language Learning Center.

She has over 22 years of experience in the education field, including Hispanic Linguistics, Spanish Teaching, Curriculum Development, and Course planning and facilitation; additionally, she is well-versed in administering DELE testing to students to identify what level of Spanish they need to be placed into. Before joining the Music and Language Learning Center, Orfilia taught at Nippon Hispanic Academy for 5 years while simultaneously teaching at the Langland language institute in Japan for 11 years, as a Spanish Language Professor.  She also worked at Kawasaki Motors as a Spanish Teacher and at Kanagawa International School teaching young children Spanish; additionally, she also taught online at Take Lessons as a Spanish teacher for 6 years. 

She has vast experience teaching the Spanish language that spans over 22 years while teaching a wide age group of students ranging from the ages 5 to 81 years of age.  Orfilia earned her Bachelor’s degree from Atlantic International University in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is a certified Spanish Curriculum Developer by Cervantes Spanish Institute furthermore she is well versed in the administering of the DELE and CEFR testing and language level placement; additionally, she has a certification in Microsoft Programs as an Office Assistant and is Certified in CPR.   She was selected as “Professor of the Year” by the Language Institute and graduated toward the top of her class at Atlantic International University.  Orfilia strives to make her lessons custom-tailored to each student and truly enjoys watching her students excel.
