As I teach the class, I will use a combination of English and Spanish with the students to teach and ask questions. This class is a fun way to start learning Spanish (no prior experience necessary). In this class, students will learn and practice beginner level conversations and topics in Spanish. Look at the description in the “Class Experience” section to see what topics will be covered for each week.
I earned a B.A. in Spanish from Grace College in Indiana. I had the opportunity to live and study in Madrid, Spain where I was immersed in the language and culture. I have formal experience teaching Spanish in a Texas middle school classroom for two years and have experience teaching virtually thanks to the pandemic.
There will be no homework assigned for this class, but students are encouraged to use the vocabulary and phrases learned in class throughout the week for additional practice.
Students can print the paper provided for each week’s lesson or use blank paper and a pencil to take notes. This will allow students to review what we have learned and practice throughout the week as well.
Assessments will be taken informally by the teacher through interactive games, practice problems, and responding to questions.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Additional materials will be used as well. Kahoot will be used as a fun, informal way to test student knowledge and progress on a topic. All Kahoots used during class are created by me to ensure accuracy and relevancy. Quizlet vocabulary sets are also available as an additional resource for students to review vocabulary. Games, flashcards, and practice quizzes are available for students in Quizlet to access outside of class to further their exposure. YouTube may be used in class as I share my screen to display songs and videos that correlate to the weekly topic.
