Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Anyone can Learn to draw. As long as the student has a desire to learn drawing, I can teach them how.
If you are interested in my Ongoing Weekly Sketchbook Class , https://outschool.com/classes/draw-with-me-weekly-sketchbook-drawings-vxIuhTIr but are not sure if you or your student is ready for intermediate drawings, this drawing course is the place to start, even if you are already drawing, still begin here to get the fundamentals.

                                              Class format
We will meet 1 time per week for 8 weeks.
Each day we will start class with warm ups and exercises that begin the training of seeing like an artist. We will then move in to our drawing. At the end of class students will be given an assignment to practice during the week on their own. This outside class practice will help student to use the skills they learned and enhance their progress.
                                         Who is this class for?
Both beginners and those who have been drawing on their own and could use some fundamental training will benefit from this class.
                                                   Supplies
Students will need a set of Graphite Pencils for this class, I will teach them how to use these pencils.
I believe that good quality supplies and beautiful subjects help inspire young artists to create and to feel confident in their work.

Class 1 Line: sketching lightly, seeing lines, landscapes
We will start with simple lines using graphite pencils in different ways to achieve different line widths, values and effects. Students will be amazed how these simple lines help us create gorgeous landscapes in this first class.
Class 2 Shapes: basic shapes geometric and organic, simple subjects
We will move on to basic shapes, introducing geometric and organic shapes we will have fun going back to basics and loosely sketching all over the page, circles, squares triangles and fun organic shapes. We will then begin to put these shapes together to create simple drawings.
Class 3 Shading: techniques, value, form
In this lesson I will show students how to use varying pressures on their pencils to create a value scale of light to dark. These values will enable us to create form in our drawings and give it the "3D" look or "realistic" they want to achieve. We will use our pencils in different ways to create texture.
Class 4 English Robin and Sparrow
Class 5 Blue Jay and Black capped Chickadee
I absolutely love to teach drawing with the beautiful subject of birds!! They are one of my favorite subjects in my own artwork, and the perfect way to learn drawing skills. Birds are simple and easy to draw yet detailed and intricate enough to inspire an amazing finished drawing.
Class 6. Bird (Students Choice)
After students have completed 3 or 4 birds directed by me they will pick from several reference photos and complete a bird of their choosing.
Class 7. Jellyfish
Any student who has been in my weekly sketchbook class for some time has probably done this Jellyfish! It is the first drawing I started with in my drawing class and I make sure every student get's this one in. It is a great beginner drawing with amazing results.
Class 8 Students will choose subject via Voting process
At this point students are ready to dive into drawing whatever they like. In this last class we will vote on the drawing we will do, just like the format I use in my weekly drawing classes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a full time artist completely in love with creating art , I paint daily and sell my paintings locally and online.
I have enjoyed drawing since I was a child and have always had a sketchbook nearby but never took an art class until my late 20's. One oil painting class and I was off, learning everything I could, using as many art materials as I could get my hands on.
A fearless desire to try new art techniques and mediums has driven me to learn art on my own, no formal training , although I have learned a lot from some talented online art teachers.
It is exciting, inspiring, empowering to learn that you can create something beautiful with just your hands, your mind and a few simple tools.
I would become stagnant if I did not have an outflow for this creativity, so I teach!! I love sharing what I have learned with others. I am willing to teach whatever I am learning and creating so expect a variety of classes.
I taught art in a private school to grades K-12 for 2 years. I have also taught art and sewing lessons in my home. I was a homeschool mom for several years and taught art at our homeschool co-op to ages 6-13.
I think that online learning is a huge asset to the the young artist. Being that I have learned a lot online myself I know from a students perspective.
With close up cameras, a smart pen, sharing abilities in Zoom, printables and whatever else it takes , I am able to really focus the student on what they see, learning to see details and put them down on canvas or paper.
I believe every artist is at a different place in his or her learning process and needs to work right there in that place. No comparisons to others or mine. Mistakes are welcomed and hopefully turned into a new and unexpected beauty in the art.
My hope is that my students enjoy the process of learning and creating art as much as I do and that I can help make that happen.
