Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
The student will gain control of the foot pedal.
The student will sew in a straight line.
The student will back-stitch to prevent raveling.
After class, the student may choose to iron, with parent assistance, and top-stitch the pillowcase cuff for a professional look.

The student may also choose to complete a second pillowcase.
Please purchase, wash and cut fabric prior to start of class. This class uses a sewing machine. MATERIALS LIST: 3/4 yard cotton woven fabric (pillowcase body) 1/4 yard cotton woven fabric (pillowcase cuff) Fabric costs vary, typically running between $2-10/yard, depending on quality and sales/discounts. To upcycle, old sheets and some curtains may be a suitable free option. **Optional: If the student would like to make two coordinating pillowcases, 1 yard each of two fabrics can be purchased. CUT LIST: ***wash before cutting*** Cut body fabric to 27" by the width of the fabric from selvage to selvage (the edges that didn't fray in the wash are called selvage). 27" by approx. 44", depending on brand and shrinkage. Cut cuff fabric to 9" by the width of the fabric. 9" by approx. 44", depending on brand and shrinkage. Fabric should be ironed to remove wrinkles and cut prior to start of class. SUPPLIES: pins pincushion scissors seam ripper
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students should accompany parent to select cotton woven fabric and thread color of their choice.  This may take up to an hour.
