Beginner Scratch Coding: Let's Make a Pong Game (One-Day)

This one-time class, will cover how to use a block-based visual programming language. Students will learn to create games and animations. No experience required.

Class Experience

Students will be taught an introductory to coding by using the blocked-based visual programming language called Scratch.  This class will allow learners to use critical thinking skills. Students do not need prior coding experience. This class is best suited for children who have never used Scratch.

This class is very interactive and focuses on project based learning. This class promotes creativity and innovation. Students will have many opportunities to ask questions when needed.

Students will learn the following:
- They will learn how to add and change sprites, sounds, backdrops and use variables.
- Students will learn how to save their work and how to share their work.
- Students will have a guided tutorial on how to make a pong game.

Coding:
1. Students will be required to have a desktop computer or a laptop to take this class in order to code on Scratch 3.0. Students should not be using tablets or iPad's.
2. Students are required to have a keyboard during class, this will help them code.
3. Students may take the class with one device but they will need to have two screens opened at the same time. 
4. Students are required to have an account with Scratch. This will help them save their projects. The website is: https://scratch.mit.edu/
Zoom:
1. It is strongly encouraged to have two devices. One device for Zoom (laptop, desktop computer or tablet) and a second device for coding (no tablets or iPad's).

RAIA LOBO- She is the Founder and CEO at BrainFizz. She creates all the content for BrainFizz. She teaches coding, space and conducts social clubs and escape rooms. Raia has received a degree from University of Ontario Institute of Technology. She has taught online for longer than 4 years and has taught over 10,000 classes online during this span. Raia has taught Grades 4-6 in a brick and mortar setting. She has experience teaching students ages 3 to 16 years of age. 

BrainFizz offers a variety of different classes. All teachers will be patient and help your child gain confidence and they will have fun learning. BrainFizz's philosophy is that education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world- Nelson Mandela. 

All classes will incorporate creative measures, this helps many young learners absorb the content easily. Some of the methods include drawing, coloring or creating a mini-project during class. These activities will help students gain critical thinking skills, innovation, focus, and freedom of expression. Unlike a conventional classroom BrainFizz enjoys providing  students with many opportunities to explore new hands on approaches.

Refunds and Transfers:
Per Outschool's limited refund policy: "Full refund within 24 hours of purchase or up to a week in advance of the class." If you have any concerns, you can also contact Outschool Support directly.

For one-time classes:
If you are unable to make a class, please message us 24 hours before class. We will try our best to accommodate by transferring the student to a different date and time. If you message us after the 24 hours. We cannot issue a refund or transfer the student.

For multi-day classes:
If you are unable to make a class, we are unable to transfer the student. We will have a recording available. 

Class cancellations:
BrainFizz may cancel a class if we do not reach the minimum number of students enrolled. If this happens, we will message you ahead of time asking if you would like to transfer or be issued a refund. Automatic refunds will be sent if no response is made.

Recordings:
Class recordings are not automatically posted. You will need to request for the recording. This is for safety of the students.

Technical concerns:
If you are experiencing technical concerns please message Outschool's support team directly, they can assist you. We are unable to assist while teaching the course. We are unable to issue refunds for technical concerns from your end.  

Messages:
If you sent us a message. We will send an email in 24 hours. If you have questions or concerns about a course that is scheduled for today. Please keep in mind that we might not be able to email you on time. Emailing us a day prior will avoid any conflicts with your upcoming course.

***At the beginning of class, students will be required to open their cameras for security purposes. They can be turned off once I have verified. Please make sure to test Zoom before entering class.
