US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
This is a one-time class for students to practice beginning reading skills. I use puppets and games to teach phonics and other reading skills. The students will interact with each other and with the teacher in a positive manner. Students will identify adjectives and learn several adjective sight words in order to prepare the student for reading. The easy reader, Too Many Cats by Lori Haskins Houran, will be shown in slide show format so students do not need to buy a book. By the end of the class the students should be excited about learning to read and have gained confidence in phonics and reading skills.

Hello!
I am so excited to be a teacher on the Outschool platform. Reading and literature are what I am passionate about. I know what a difference reading can have in a child’s life because all subjects hinge on reading. During the first years that I taught I became very concerned about children who struggled academically so I received a master’s degree in learning disabilities. I enjoy making reading fascinating, fun, and friendly but not formidable. By using phonics and games in a relaxed setting my students experience success. I have been a teacher for over thirty years. I have taught first and second grade, been a resource room teacher, and taught classes to homeschool students. I have also homeschooled my own four children through high school. One interest that I have discovered is Kpop and now I really enjoy that music genre!
