Description

Class Experience

Use one of the world's greatest artists to build your drawing skills.  Learn the basics of portrait drawings and complete a layout sketch of the guidelines for an average adult human head.  Use those guidelines to create a portrait drawing of Michelangelo's famous sculpture of David.

5-10 minutes: Teacher will explain the basic layout and guideline for drawing the average human head.  We will create a sketch of those guidelines together.  Teacher will demonstrate on camera while learners...

Students will gain portrait drawing skills.  They will learn the basic proportions of the average adult human head.  They will complete one portrait drawing of "David".

I have a BFA in Fine Arts and have taught High School art and art history for several years.  I have also volunteered as an Artist in Residence and as Head of Art Department through two inner city summer camp programs.

  1 file available upon enrollmentDrawing paper (any kind no lines, minimum 2 sheets)
pencil (one that sharpens is recommended)
eraser (white plastic art eraser is recommended)
printer (you will need a copy of the provided photograph, print out is recommended but learner may view on a second device during class)
ruler (optional)

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Assessment will be conducted informally by teacher based on questions asked and shared drawings.  Teacher will adjust instruction as needed based on learners progress.

45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.

Please note:  We will not view the entire sculpture of "David" by Michelangelo, only his face will be displayed.  You should note that the entire statue is nude.  We will only look at a photo of the face.  The entire body will not be displayed.  The image used will be available for download upon enrollment in the class.
