Class Experience
Ever wish you could learn to play piano or read music? Well, here's your chance! With beginner piano lessons, we start from the very beginning--the ABCs of music and learning the keys. We will introduce note reading and ear training in addition to the classical approach to learning piano. I like to ask my students what they hope to gain from piano--what type of music are you looking to play? What skills are you hoping to gain? While all students will learn the fundamentals, lessons are...
Students will learn: -To read music on both a treble and bass clef staff -Proper hand position and posture -Each key on the piano and how to identify it -Scales!! -Music theory: time signatures, key signatures, etc -Chord theory -Musicality, phrasing, articulation, and dynamics -Sight-reading -Songs from all genres: classical, pop, jazz, folk, etc
I recommend students spend 20-30 minutes per day practicing their piano skills outside of class time. Lessons only work if students put in the work as well.
-I will provide students with PDFs to get started. I like to asses what book will suit a student best before requiring any purchases. -Students will have to purchase a piano method book but which book will be dependent on any previous experience or any particular goals the student has. The most common method books I have students purchase is the Alfred series or The Joy of First Year Piano.
Students will have song goals and make individualized performance goals.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
