Class Experience

Ever wish you could learn to play piano or read music? Well, here's your chance! With beginner piano lessons, we start from the very beginning--the ABCs of music and learning the keys. We will introduce note reading and ear training in addition to the classical approach to learning piano. I like to ask my students what they hope to gain from piano--what type of music are you looking to play? What skills are you hoping to gain? While all students will learn the fundamentals, lessons are tailored to each child, their needs, and their hopes and comfort levels. Students can expect to have finger exercises, scales, music theory, and a song to work on each week. Because students will want to progress, it is imperative that they spend time outside of lessons practicing. I recommend 30 minutes per day.
Learning Goals
Students will learn:
-To read music on both a treble and bass clef staff
-Proper hand position and posture
-Each key on the piano and how to identify it
-Scales!!
-Music theory: time signatures, key signatures, etc
-Chord theory
-Musicality, phrasing, articulation, and dynamics
-Sight-reading
-Songs from all genres: classical, pop, jazz, folk, etc

Supply List
-I will provide students with PDFs to get started. I like to asses what book will suit a student best before requiring any purchases.
-Students will have to purchase a piano method book but which book will be dependent on any previous experience or any particular goals the student has. The most common method books I have students purchase is the Alfred series or The Joy of First Year Piano.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Greetings, friends!

This is Teacher Lea from Massachusetts. I am a passionate teacher of both music and ESL. I teach primarily music classes and private lessons but also have a huge heart for global language and communication.

I hold both a Bachelors and Masters degree in education and am certified in K-12 music. I also hold a TEFL certificate which means Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

I believe that education is more than the classes you take or the homework you do. True education lies in the heart of the learner and can only be reached to its fullest potential when the learner takes ownership and accountability for their learning process. Beyond that, learning should be FUN! I aim to make all my classes and lessons interactive and enjoyable. I want to know my student as a whole person and strive to get to know them beyond classroom.

Outside of the classroom, I am a mom of three kids under the age of 2. Needless to say, I have lots of energy! I have an almost 2 year old and 6 month old identical twin girls. I also love to run, be outside, cook, and listen to podcasts. I can not wait to see you in class!

With Love and Gratitude,
Lea
