In this 8 week course, students will continue learning to play the piano in a fun and encouraging setting. We will be using the Alfred Prep Course for the Young Beginner - Level E, and will be playing from the lesson book as well as the solo book. We will expect to cover about the first half of each book, although pacing of the class may be adjusted as necessary. We will also use the Faber Playtime Piano Classics book - level 2A. Students should have completed the "Beginner Piano Class for Ages 5-8 - Part 9" OR have completed the Alfred Prep Course book D OR a similar piano method. If you are unsure of your child's level/readiness for this class, I will be happy to schedule an individual lesson to make an assessment. Week One: We will review harmonic 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, and 5th for left hand. Students will be introduced to dotted quarter notes. Week Two: We will play several new songs using and reinforcing the dotter quarter note / eighth note rhythmic pattern. Week Three: We will review D.C. al Fine and learn the term Molto. We will learn about measuring the interval of a 6th and play songs using this interval. Week Four: We will learn about changing time signatures within a piece. We will practice more songs using the interval of a 6th. Week Five: We will learn the dynamic sign for mezzo piano and continue to practice songs with 6ths. Week Six: We will learn to move up and down the keyboard by 6ths and learn how to cross finger 2 over finger 1. Week Seven: We will learn the dynamic signs for pianissimo and fortissimo and learn about measuring the interval of a 7th. Week Eight: We will continue practicing different songs with intervals of 5ths, 6ths, and 7ths.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to play with correct technique, learn to read music on the staff, and learn to play songs of increasing difficulty.

Hello! I am so excited to teach piano classes on Outschool! I have been playing piano most of my life and I really love teaching beginners. It is so important to learn the fundamentals like correct hand position, posture, and note reading from the very beginning, and these are some of the things that I really focus on in class. I have taught many students of all ages how to play the piano. I have also taught high school and jr. high school choir and jr. high school band in the San Antonio, Texas area. I have been an accompanist for many groups, including The Children's Chorus of San Antonio, and I served as a member of the Fifth United States Army Band at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. I look forward to working with your child!
