Class Experience

This class is an interactive tutorial introduction to letter sounds with a master Montessori teacher. Correctly finger-tracing sandpaper letters - with one phonetic sound per letter - is a fundamental skill for reading and writing success! This foundational Montessori-inspired tutorial class is specifically designed to generate interest and support practice. Each 35-minute session is meant to be an introduction or a reminder. In addition to weekly live sessions, you'll receive links to videos of Ms. Rachael demonstrating how to finger-trace each sandpaper letter. The content repeats every 8 weeks; join any time. Are you searching for additional authentic Montessori English language learning? Scroll down to see a sequenced catalog of 'Montessori Read and Write' classes, from beginning phonics to emerging reading and writing skills.

Each session has 3 parts:
1. Watch a slide show of photos and lowercase print letters; sing along to an alphabet-sound song with live autoharp music!
2. Watch and participate as we finger-trace 6 or 7 authentic Montessori sandpaper letters in lowercase print, with examples of words that begin with each letter sound, shown in up-close photos. Position your at-home camera to show pencil grip and letter formation, and receive tips and support. Use a whiteboard and colored markers if you'd prefer.
3. Take turns with Ms. Rachael and play a simple cooperative BINGO game: identifying the initial sounds of pictures that match the target sounds of the day. A PDF of each BINGO game (unique to that session) will be sent on the Monday ET before we meet, and screen-shared while we play together. Printing the game is optional!

Supply List
Using colored markers and a white board is a great way to get started with this tutorial! If possible, please also buy a set of lowercase print sandpaper letters. A great resource is Alison's Montessori online. I own item #L01 "Lowercase Sandpaper Letters: print." These letters are high quality and very useful!
For each lesson, please bring only the 6 or 7 letters that are the focus of that session. The BINGO game will be sent each Monday before a class session, along with a reminder of which letters we will be practicing.
