Class Experience

I recommend that students take my Intro to Origami class first! Students will be expected to know basic folding techniques (how to make a good crease, mountain fold, and valley fold) for this class.

In this class, students will learn how to make at least 3 of the following origami models: car, boat, cup, rocket ship, and hat. Depending on student ability and speed, we might be able to make all 5 models. For each model, I will go step by step through each fold on camera. Students will be able to ask questions as necessary. I plan to spend about 10 minutes for each model. This will allow enough time for students to watch me perform each step and then perform the fold with my verbal guidance.

By the end of class, students will have created at least 3 paper models (but hopefully 4 or 5!) and gained a better understanding of basic origami folds. After class, I will post the instructions for each model to the classroom for students to print out and practice more.

Supply List
Students will need origami paper for this class. Origami paper comes in many sizes, colors, and patterns. The students can decide what size and color he/she would like to use. I will be using 15x15 cm sized paper. (This is the most common size.) Origami paper can be found in craft stores such as Michaels and Hobby Lobby. If you do not have origami paper, you can cut regular printer paper down to a square. However, origami paper is thinner which makes it easier to fold.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!

I am Miss Hillary from New Jersey.

I am a certified teacher in grades K-6 and special education K-12. On Outschool, I teach art (my favorite subject!). I received my Master's in Teaching degree from the College of New Jersey. My undergraduate degree is from the University of New Hampshire where I majored in anthropology.

I have been working with kids in a variety of settings for the past 10 years. I have taught in both public and private schools, and I have also done homeschool instruction. Prior to getting my teaching degree, I led art classes at my local library and at a summer camp. I also coached gymnastics throughout college.

I have always had a passion for teaching and working with kids. I believe that learning should be fun and strive to make all my classes enjoyable and engaging.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy riding my horse Maxi! We like to go on relaxing trail rides together.
