What's included

Homework
1 hour per week. The homework for each week is to send an audio mp3 file recording of the students practicing what was taught in class. I will go through these recordings and give feedback. The homework should not take more than 30 minutes to 1 hour each week.

Class Experience

In the first class I will go over a basic introduction to Morse Code and ways in which the code is still in use today. I will then send a message using this free app: CW Studio for Android.

Students will learn the two different characters that make up all Morse Code: the dash "-" (pronounced dah) and the dot "." (pronounced dit).

Next, I will go over the first half of the alphabet by typing it out and encouraging learners to go get a paper and pencil if they don't already have one. This will happen by explaining to the students: "I am now going to type out an "A". After typing out ".-", the students will have a pen or pencil and write down the letter "A" and under the letter, will write ".-".

After writing out the first half of the alphabet, the students will be given words to practice that contain those first six characters.

At the end the first class, students will listen to a final secret message in Morse code at 5 words per minute. The message will be repeated once and students can replay back if they need more time to copy the message. Students will be asked to post what they heard in the secret message into the classroom comments. I will go in and provide feedback on the answers.

In the second class, we will learn the second half of the alphabet the same way we learned the first half. There will be an end of class secret message at 5 words per minute in the form of a question. Students will be asked to copy down the question and then write, record, and post their answer in the classroom comments for feedback.

The following class we will learn some basic sentences and practice sending and receiving. The secret message for the third class will again be at 5 words per minute and will be a question in the form of the actual code language used in real radio conversations. Students will be asked to respond to this message using the the same code language by writing down, recording, and posting their answers in the classroom for feedback.

The final class will be focused on learning all of the common code languages used on the radio. Students will also work on their typing, pacing, and overall clarity of the message. The final class secret message will be about 10 words per minute and will be a short recording of an actual radio conversation I have had with another radio operator. Students will be asked to find the callsigns and state of both myself and the other radio operator in the conversation. All the students will post their answers in writing in the classroom comments. In addition, students will be asked to record a basic message using actual radio code language at 5 words per minute as their final project and will be asked to post this in the classroom as well for feedback.

As long as you can speak and understand English you can sign up for this class.

All learners who complete this whole course will be invited to my live ongoing Morse code class.
