Description
Class Experience
Students will learn about mindfulness by creating glitter jars in order to help them learn an effective strategy for stress management.
As a school social worker, I have been working with students in preschool through 8th grade for 14 years on topics such as coping skills, identifying emotions, and practicing mindfulness.
There is no homework, but students are encouraged to continue practicing using their glitter jars in order for it to become more natural.
Students will need: A sturdy empty 16 ounce plastic bottle with a lid (for example, an empty water bottle) 1/2 cup of clear glue 1-2 teaspoons of glitter (color of your choice) Measuring cups (1/2 cup and 1 teaspoon) Distilled water preferred, but can use tap water (distilled water will keep the glitter jar mold-free) Food coloring of your choice (optional)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental guidance suggested as students will be using glitter.
