Class Experience

What will be taught?
Socially appropriate greetings in Japanese culture, casual greetings, how to express one's preferences, and expand more one self-introduction using new expressions. The class will provide students with language learning tricks and recommend trusted online resources.

What topics will you cover?
Socially appropriate greetings in Japanese culture, casual greetings, how to express one's preferences, and expand more one self-introduction using new expressions.

How is your class structured?
The class will be on zoom. Interactive class activity will also be conducted within zoom for checking student understanding throughout the class.

How will you teach?
I will teach the class through Zoom, sharing power point slides with many illustrations for better understanding.

What's your teaching style?
I believe students, especially younger ones, learn better and retain more information when they are having fun. I like to teach students while making the learning process fun for them, as well as for myself.

How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)?
Students will get to play an interactive class activity based on what they learned throughout the class via Zoom.

Any required experience or knowledge learners need?
Knowing all 46 hiragana is recommended, but 80% knowledge of hiragana should be fine.
Use of Zoom platform and Quizlet.

Learning Goals

As there are 46 hiragana in this phonetic writing system, students will be supplied with a chart which will be accessible upon enrollment. The class will not go over all of them, as it is recommended for students to know at least 80% of all hiragana, but I will be providing the students with learning tools which they will be able to access during the class and after using Quizlet. Students will be able to greet in accordance with Japanese social norms, express one's preferences using adjectives, and include more phrases to expand on the initial self-instroduction from the previous class.

Certified teacher for Japanese (EC-12), Mandarin(EC-12) and Art(EC-12). I grew up speaking Japanese, Mandarin and Taiwanese, so I have no problem mixing them up to meet your need.

****If you are unable to register for my classes using ESA, please send Outschool helpdesk a message, and please let me know! I appreciate you taking time to letting me know.

即使您的孩子对英语不太熟悉, 别担心! 我能用普通话和英语教课, 所以放心跟我学日语吧! 我在美国公立高中教了9年的日语, 所以我对教日语很有信心。希望您的孩子和我一起学习日语时会学得开心。

Many years of freelance tutoring experience for Japanese and Mandarin have helped me teaching all levels of Japanese including Pre-AP and AP classes at my former employment of 9 years at a public high school. While I appreciate having a structured learning environment at a school setting, I miss the free-style teaching that suits the needs of each student. Desires to learn come strongest when one is genuinely interested in something, and rarely do those desires come from wanting to learn from a textbook . I hope you will have fun and enjoy my classes.

If you are interested in having your learners learn Japanese using a textbook and a workbook, please let me know! I have a few private section of classes using textbooks. Each student are required to have their own copy of the textbook and the workbook for these classes.

For those who seeking for a study group to study for JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) , send me a message! I would love to host study sessions/classes for those who are studying for the test. Studying for JLPT can be fun with others :)

I graduated with degrees in art and film. I also studied architecture for my graduate degree, after I worked at an architecture firm for nearly two years.

As part of my art and film degree, I am trained in typography, graphic design, presentation design and film production which come in handy when I create my class materials for my students.

My tutoring experience started while attending my graduate program in architecture. I began tutoring college level Japanese to help students succeed in their studies. Through my help these students were able to ace Japanese course placement tests. Since then I have tutored from middle school to high school students for AP Japanese exam, JLPT exams for N5, N4, N3, and N2. For adults, I have had the honor of help writing speeches, translating articles for thesis, and tutoring in business Japanese as well as preparing for JLPT exams.
