Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Cursive writing is such an important life skill that is fun and exciting to learn!
Each week we will practice letters that are similar to one another so students are using the same movements and will begin to understand not only how to make the cursive letters, but also refine their fine motor skills. For example, one week we would practice c, a and d because they all three use similar movements and this will help the students grasp it quickly without the overwhelm!

*Students will also be given an extra practice worksheet after each class to reinforce what we learned!*

This class is perfect for students who...
-are beginners
-want to learn the basics of forming letters
-have had some introduction to cursive, but need a refresher

What will we do in class?
-form the letters by themselves
-learn how to connect the letters
-make silly sentences
-go on a scavenger hunt to find something that begins with our letters

As we write, we will make it silly and fun! For each letter we learn, we will each try to say a word that starts with that letter and go around to make a silly sentence. (The students will not be required to write this sentence, this is just to help them stay engaged and have fun!) At the end of each class, I will present a challenge to the students. They will try to copy a word(s) using some of the letters we practiced, but also be introduced to new letters that have not been taught yet.

I teach a style very similar to the D'Nealian cursive method.

This class will meet one time per week with a variety of days and times to choose from!

How will the class be set up?
2-5 minutes - Welcome
20-25 minutes - Introduce the letters & practice together - this will include a few brain breaks, movement breaks and our silly game of sentences/scavenger hunt. During this time, we will practice connecting the letters and writing words.

Teacher qualifications:
I have been writing in cursive for over 20 years. I have also taught many 2nd grade students how to properly form letters and write in cursive while teaching in my public school classroom. This is such an important life skill that I love teaching and want to encourage students to have fun with and love as well!

Learners will be able to drop in any time! We will continuously review how to form the letters and words. Each week we will start off simple & easy, and end with a challenge to write a word or a few words so students of many different levels will be able to participate! The classes will not build upon one another. Once we go through all of the letters, the class will cycle through the same material. You are welcome to continue your child in the class for extra practice, or move on to one of my other cursive writing classes.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to write letters in cursive and begin writing words! Students will work on fine motor skills and learn the basics of cursive handwriting.
