Ms. Bender holds a BA in Historical Studies from Stockton University, where she studied Latin as her chosen language, and MA in Egyptology from the University of Toronto. She knows how to make things fun while facilitating learning in her unique, personalized style. She is an archaeologist with two seasons digging in the field in Egypt and will be appearing on an upcoming History Channel program.
Students will be expected to make flash cards for all new vocabulary and complete translation assignments. Homework policy will be discussed in class.
A PDF textbook will be provided. Purchasing a hard copy of the textbook is recommended for for students who are not tech-savvy (used is perfectly fine, edition doesn't matter very much). The text we use is the Cambridge Latin Course Unit One, Fifth Edition
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Discussion of Roman culture unavoidably includes topics such as slavery and violence. Additionally, our textbook takes place in Pompeii, and we will be viewing a walking tour of Pompeii that includes skeletal human remains.
