Class Experience

Students will not be meeting for live meetings. Students will receive a video of me teaching the keyboarding lessons to they can watch over and over for review if they need to. Students will also receive postings each week of homework assignments and each assignment will require they comment on their classmates posts or answer questions posted by the teacher. Assignments may be a coloring page, typing online in a classroom set up by the teacher, posting an image/video of themselves completing their homework or posting a question in the classroom.

Here is a break down of each week with every video covering a new set of letters we have not learned previously:

Week 1: A video lesson will be posted. For homework, students will complete a coloring page and post a picture of it to the classroom for classmates and will be commenting on their classmate's pictures with encouragement.

Week 2: A video lesson will be posted. Students will be asked to complete homework on the typing.com site already setup for them so they login and do this on their own time. Students are to post a video of themselves teaching their classmates how to type to their name.

Week 3: A video lesson will be posted. Students will be asked to complete homework on the typing.com site already setup for them so they login and do this on their own time. Students will be asked to type the name of their favorite tv show in the classroom tab on Outschool. Students are encouraged to comment on their friend's posts and to share what they like or dislike about each show listed.

I will be available through messages to answer any questions and help with the login process. The video will show detailed instructions for how to do this. Activities and lessons will be pre-loaded into the online typing classroom for students to complete on their own time.

Week 4: A video lesson will be posted. Students will be asked to complete homework on the typing.com site already setup for them so they login and do this on their own time.

Week 5: A video lesson will be posted. Students will be asked to complete homework on the typing.com site already setup for them so they login and do this on their own time. For homework, they will be posting in the classroom tab what was the best part of class. They are asked to also comment on their friend's posts.

This is a flex class created to give students as much time as they need each week to complete assignments, to take their time with the lesson and not have to get it all in 25 minutes live with leaving to be on their own and parents can pause/rewind videos to watch again. Kids are able to take more classes with taking flex classes because they are able to make flex classes work around live classes they would like to take.

Students will feel less overwhelmed being able to do their assignments and interact without having to be on camera live each week or without having class the next day. They will be given the duration of the week to complete all assignments and I will be checking the classroom tab daily to respond as well.

I look forward to helping you work toward becoming a great typist.

See you in the classroom!

Hello!

I am Lauren Cannon and I love getting to teach students from all over the world!

Living very close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the small town of Sylva has brought me so much joy and inspires me to spend as much time as possible outdoors. I enjoy hiking, seeing wildlife like a black bear, skunks, raccoons, lizards, skinks, opossums, snakes of every kind (eek!), insects of all kinds, and a bobcat on a regular basis at my house! I sometimes see them, or remnants of their time at our house in our garden or my cats bring them to our front door. Ha! We also enjoy spending time as a family swimming and gem mining in the rivers and lakes, traveling, or fishing and going for family rides off road from time to time.

While teaching and tutoring on my own or with Outschool, I am always finding some way to make learning fun by creating fun printables, virtual field trips, games and finding some way to make learning an experience to remember for everyone.

As a former Elementary School Teacher, I have always strongly believed in everyone getting to have a voice. Just like with genealogy, I love getting to hear everyone's story! Each child deserves to have a voice and to be heard. I do my best to make sure each student is heard in the classroom within reason or without taking away from our classmates class time.

I truly enjoy getting to help students have fun, but I also love getting to see their faces light up when they feel good about their learning. Seeing students learn and make progress in their learning blesses me beyond measure.

If you feel you have not had a good experience during a class we had together, please reach out to me in messages and let me know. I am looking for ways to improve and your input helps me be my best for my students.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.

I cannot wait to see you in the classroom!

Lauren Cannon
