Description
Class Experience
Students will master typing quickly without looking down and making minimal mistakes. Their speed should increase, even if slightly, by the end of the twelve day course.
Homework will be assigned, but students will be given time to complete their homework during most classes if time allows. The practice lessons assigned are not required to be completed, but the more students complete, the more their scores improve. This will be completely up to them to do to promote independence and motivation. All homework is online with a program designed to help with efficiency of typing. This can be completed on student's time. Homework will be posted in the classroom tab for student and parent reference each day we meet.
We will be using an online typing program to practice our typing skills and to assess our abilities at the beginning of class and at the end of our list of classes. I will not be providing a printout of the keyboard as some keyboards vary to where placement of keys are located. We will address this in class to fit each student's needs if they can please notify the teacher when something does not match up the same. The site we will use is typing.com and students are provided an individual login to join their classmates in class on that site. This gives me scores and helps me see what has been completed as well as what they still need. I can assess this way too. Logins will be provided in class and the link to the site will be provided in the classroom as well as in the chat box of our zoom meeting.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
The assessment will be during the class as an informal assessment of student's typing methods and understanding of where keys are. The final assessment will be the teacher and peers seeing each other type quickly and efficiently during our challenge. Parents, teachers and students can compare the pre-assessment speed to the post-assessment speed (day 1 to day 5) to see if there is improvement.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parental guidance is not required, but always welcomed! Students may need assistance getting onto the typing site.
typing.com is a site we will be using and I will be providing the login information for that site in the classroom before each class. I will also post it to the chat box so learners can click there to get to our fun typing activities. I will receive scores from the students at the end of each class and I'll share those with you in messages through our classroom tab (in private) if you're interested in them.
