In this class, students will learn mnemonics to help remember the colours in Japanese. They will also play a game to find specific coloured items in their house. The final challenge will be a speaking and listening task to describe anime faces for other students to colour in. All of the sentences will use the A wa B desu sentence pattern, which is foundational for beginner Japanese. We will cover the following English words in Japanese: Vocabulary: hello, hair, eyes, red, orange, yellow,...
Students will develop a strong grasp of the foundational grammar structure: A wa B desu. Students will learn the correct pronunciation for Japanese words.
I really enjoy teaching Japanese and, in 2019, I presented a talk called "Cat memes, costumes and creativity" to a large group of Japanese teachers in Australia. I love bringing fun and laughter into my lessons and look forward to sharing the beautiful Japanese language with my students.
Learners will need to print the one page handout, or draw the faces to colour in. Learners will also need colouring pens or pencils. Coloured materials for the game do not need to be prepared in advance.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
